I heard an owl outside my room

To me it beckoned from the blue.

So in my liminality
His tree I crept outside to seek
My monkey slippers on my feet

In the hollow of the tree
I saw two nictitating eyes
Shining on me
And the creature spoke from the wood
In a low and trembling voice
I half understood
Then the world turned upside down
A shower of sparks sprung from the ground
And I thought I was dead
It was only in my head

Before my very eyes
Saw the owl grow as tall as the sky
And the sparks came raining down
It was magic, magic
As I stood in the land of dreams.
What did it mean?

Then he said “do you pass the test?”
Pulled my heart right outta my chest
It was wreathed in dust and grime

Saw all my troubles in its sheen
What did it mean?
